ವಿಶ್ವದ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗೆ ಅವಮಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ, ವಂಚಿಸಿದ, ಬೆನ್ನಿಗೆ ಚೂರಿ ಇರಿದ, ಮಾನವ ಕುಲಕೋಟಿಗೆ ಅವಮಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ ವಿಶ್ವ ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಮತ್ತು ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಹಾಗೂ ಈ ಅನೈತಿಕ ನಿಯಮದಡಿ ಆಟ ಆಡಿಸಿದ ಅಮೆರಿಕ ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ತಂಡದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಕೋಚ್ ಈ ಕ್ಷಣವೇ ರಾಜೀನಾಮೆ ನೀಡಿ ಹೊರ ನಡೆಯಬೇಕು. ವಿಶ್ವದ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಘನತೆಯನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಹಿಡಿಯಬೇಕು.
ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾ ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ತಂಡವನ್ನು ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷದ ಅವಧಿಗೆ ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಬೇಕು. ಇದನ್ನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟಿಸದೆ ಅದರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಆಡಿದ ಬೆಲ್ಜಿಯಂ ತಂಡವು ಸೇರಿ ಈ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ತಂಡಗಳು ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಹಣವನ್ನು ದಂಡದ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿ, ವಿಶ್ವ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಉಳಿಸುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಬೇಕು.
ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇಡೀ ವಿಶ್ವದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಪಟುಗಳು, ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು, ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದೇಶಗಳ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಚಿವರು ಹಾಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧ ಮನಸ್ಸುಗಳು ಧ್ವನಿ ಎತ್ತಲೇ ಬೇಕಿದೆ. ಇದೇನು ಹುಡುಗಾಟವಲ್ಲ. ಈ ವಿಶ್ವ ಟ್ರಂಪ್ ಅವರ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಆಸ್ತಿಯೂ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಹಿಟ್ಲರ್, ಮುಸಲೋನಿ ಅಂತವರು ಆಗ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಕೆಲವು ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು ಎಂದು ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದೇ ಹಿಟ್ಲರ್ ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶದ ಹಾಕಿ ಮಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಧ್ಯಾನ್ ಚಂದ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಜರ್ಮನಿ ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರ್ಪಡೆಯಾದರೆ ಸೈನ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೇಜರ್ ಹುದ್ದೆಗೆ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡುವುದಾಗಿ ಆಮಿಷಹೊಡ್ಡಿ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿದ್ದು ನಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದಿದೆ. ಧ್ಯಾನ್ಚಂದ್ ಅವರ ದೇಶಭಕ್ತಿ, ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಮನೋಭಾವವನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತಾ….
ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ಆಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ನಿಯಮವಿದೆ. ಅದರ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಆಟಗಾರರು ಆಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಒರಟುತನ ತೋರಿಸಿದರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಹಳದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಂಪು ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ತೋರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಎರಡು ಹಳದಿ ಕಾಡ್ ಪಡೆದರೆ ಆತ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಮೈದಾನ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಹೊರ ಹೋಗಬೇಕು. ಒಂದು ಕೆಂಪು ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಪಡೆದರೆ ಆತ ಆ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಮೈದಾನದಿಂದ ಹೊರ ಹೋಗಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂದಿನ ಒಂದು ಪಂದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆತನನ್ನು ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಇದೇ ರೀತಿ ಈ ವಿಶ್ವಕಪ್ ಪಂದ್ಯಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದ ಆಟಗಾರ ಬಾಗೋಲನ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೆಂಪು ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ತೋರಿಸಿ ಹೊರಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಮುಂದಿನ ಪಂದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರು ಆಡುವಂತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ವಿಶ್ವ ಪುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಾತುಕತೆ ನಡೆಸಿ ಆ ಪಂದ್ಯದ ಅಂಪೈರ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅನುಮಾನ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿ ಅವರ ನಿಷೇಧವನ್ನು ಅಮಾನತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಿಸಿ ಬಾಲೋಗನ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಮುಂದಿನ ಪಂದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಡಲು ಅನುಮತಿ ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡರು.
ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ವಿರೋಧಿ ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರು ಅದನ್ನು ಒಪ್ಪಿ ಬಾಲೋಗನ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಆಡಿಸಿದರು. ಆದರೂ ಪಂದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮೆರಿಕ 4 – 1 ರಿಂದ ಹೀನಾಯವಾಗಿ ಸೋತು ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟದಿಂದಲೇ ಹೊರ ನಡೆಯಿತು.
ಅದು ಏನೇ ಇರಲಿ ಡೊನಾಲ್ಡ್ ಟ್ರಂಪ್ ಮತ್ತು ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರ ವರ್ತನೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ತೀರಾ ಆಘಾತಕಾರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಆಕ್ಷೇಪಾರ್ಹವಾದುದು.
ಹೌದು, ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ನಿಯಮಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ತೀರಾ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ರೀತಿ ಕೆಂಪು ಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಪಡೆದು ಅದನ್ನು ಮುಂದಿನ ಪಂದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸದೆ ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ತಡೆ ಹಿಡಿದು ಮುಂದೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಅನುಷ್ಠಾನಗೊಳಿಸಿದ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಒಂದೆರಡು ಪ್ರಕರಣಗಳಿವೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ತೀರ್ಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಪುನರ್ ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸಿ ವಾಪಸ್ಸು ಪಡೆದ ವಿರಳ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯು ಇದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದದ್ದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಆ ರೀತಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷತೆ ಏನೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅಮೆರಿಕ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಸ್ವತಃ ತನ್ನ ದೇಶದ ತಂಡದ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತದ ಹಸ್ತಕ್ಷೇಪ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಸಹಿಸಲೇಬಾರದು.
ನನಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಅಮೆರಿಕ ಜನರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ. ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ, ಸಮಾನತೆಯ ರಕ್ಷಕರು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ, ಈ ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವ ದೇಶದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ, ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಏನಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಂದುವೇಳೆ ಚೀನಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟಿಸಿದರೆ ಗುಂಡಿಕ್ಕಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇರಾನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ, ಆಫ್ಘಾನಿಸ್ತಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟಿಸಿದರೆ ಗುಂಡಿಕ್ಕಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದಂತಹ ಪ್ರಜಾಪ್ರಭುತ್ವ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆ, ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳಿಗೆ ಸದಾ ಮುಕ್ತ ಅವಕಾಶವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಕಾರರನ್ನು ಚದುರಿಸಲು ಗುಂಡಿಡುವುದು ಸುಲಭವೂ ಅಲ್ಲ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ತೀರಾ ಹಿಂಸಾತ್ಮಕ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣವಾದರೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಅಷ್ಟು ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯವಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಹ ಅಮೆರಿಕಾದ ಜನ ಈ ಕೆಟ್ಟ, ದುಷ್ಟ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು, ಪ್ರತಿಭಟನೆ ಮಾಡದಿರುವುದು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ. ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಂಸದರಾದರೂ ಇವರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ವಾಗ್ದಂಡನೆ ವಿಧಿಸಲೇಬೇಕು. ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ಎಂಬುದು ಒಂದು ಕ್ರೀಡೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಮನೋಭಾವ ಮೆರೆಯಬೇಕು. ಗೆಲುವು ಸೋಲು ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ. ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಕೇವಲ 5 ಲಕ್ಷಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಇರುವ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಎರಡು ಮೂರು ದೇಶಗಳು ಈ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿವೆ. 140 ಕೋಟಿಗೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಭಾರತ ಮತ್ತು ಚೀನಾ ದೇಶಗಳು ಈ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಸಂಖೆ ಮುಖ್ಯವಲ್ಲ. ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಮುಖ್ಯ. ಇದನ್ನು ಕನಿಷ್ಠ ಡೊನಾಲ್ಡ್ ಟ್ರಂಪ್ ಎಂಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಅರ್ಥೈಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದ್ದು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ದುರಂತ. ಫುಟ್ಬಾಲ್ ಫೆಡರೇಷನ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷನಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಖಾಯಿಲೆ ಬಂದಿದೆಯೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದಂತೂ ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಬಹುದೊಡ್ಡ ದ್ರೋಹ. ಇದನ್ನು ಸಹಿಸುವುದು ಸಹ ಮಹಾ ಪಾಪ.
ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಬಾಂಧವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವ ಕೆಲವೇ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರೀಡೆ ಸಹ ಒಂದು. ಅದು ಕ್ರೀಡೆಯಾಗಿಯೇ ಉಳಿಯಬೇಕೆ ಹೊರತು ರಾಜಕೀಯ ಹಸ್ತಕ್ಷೇಪ ಇರಲೇಬಾರದು.
ನನಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತು, ನಮ್ಮ ಈ ಲೇಖನದ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಡೊನಾಲ್ಡ್ ಟ್ರಂಪ್ ವರೆಗೂ, ಅಮೆರಿಕಾ ಜನರವರೆಗೂ ತಲುಪುವ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ತಲುಪಬೇಕೆಂಬುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಆಶಯ. ತಲುಪಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ವಾಸ್ತವ. ಆದರೆ ಕನಿಷ್ಠ ನಮ್ಮ ಅಂತರಾಳದ ಧ್ವನಿಗಳಾದರೂ ಕ್ಷೀಣವಾಗಿಯಾದರೂ ಮೊಳಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿ ಎಂಬ ಆಶಯದಿಂದ ಈ ಲೇಖನ.

The President of the world football governing body, the President of the United States, the head coach who, despite being sportsmen, played under what I consider to be an unethical decision that insulted the spirit of world sports, betrayed the principles of fair play, and disgraced humanity, should resign immediately. They must uphold the dignity and integrity of global sporting culture.
Likewise, I believe that the United States football team should be suspended for one year. I strongly protest against what has happened. Along with the Belgium team, which raised its voice in protest, all the teams participating in this tournament should contribute a substantial amount as a fine to establish an international award recognizing individuals who dedicate themselves to preserving the true spirit of sports.
Athletes across the world, sports organizations, sports ministers of all nations, and every conscientious individual should raise their voices on this issue. This is not a trivial matter. The world does not belong to Donald Trump personally. History records that dictators such as Hitler and Mussolini attempted to use sports and other public platforms for their own purposes. We also remember how Adolf Hitler reportedly tried to persuade India’s legendary hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand to join Germany by offering him the rank of Major in the German Army, an offer that Dhyan Chand rejected out of patriotism and commitment to his country. His sportsmanship and love for the nation remain an inspiration.
Football has clear rules. When a player commits serious or unsporting fouls, the referee issues yellow or red cards. Two yellow cards result in immediate dismissal from the field, while a direct red card means the player must leave the field immediately and is suspended for the following match.
In this World Cup tournament, an American player, Bhalogun, was shown a red card and sent off, making him ineligible for the next match. However, according to my understanding, the President of the United States discussed the matter with the President of the world football governing body, questioned the referee’s decision, and sought permission for the player’s suspension to be put on hold so that he could participate in the following match.
The President of the football governing body accepted this request, and the player was allowed to participate. Nevertheless, the United States suffered a heavy 4–1 defeat and was eliminated from the tournament.
Regardless of the result,
I consider the conduct of Donald Trump and the President of the football governing body to be deeply shocking and objectionable.
It is true that, under football regulations, there have been a few rare and exceptional cases where a suspension following a red card has been temporarily stayed or where disciplinary decisions have later been reviewed and reversed.
However, in my opinion, this case did not involve any such extraordinary circumstances. Furthermore, I believe that the direct intervention of the President of the United States in support of his national team represents an unacceptable example of political interference in sport.
What surprises me most is the reaction of the American people.
The United States proudly presents itself as a defender of liberty, equality, and democracy. In countries such as China, Iran, or Afghanistan, public protests against governments may face severe consequences. In contrast, democratic societies such as the United States generally provide people with the freedom to protest peacefully, and force is used only in extreme situations.
Despite enjoying such freedom, I find it surprising that the American people have not strongly protested against what I see as unacceptable conduct. At the very least, members of the legislature should openly condemn such actions. Football is a sport, and it should always reflect the values of sportsmanship.
Victory and defeat are natural outcomes determined by ability and performance.
Several nations with populations of fewer than 500,000 people have successfully qualified for this competition. Meanwhile, countries like India and China, each with populations exceeding 1.4 billion, have not qualified. This clearly demonstrates that population is not what matters in football; sporting merit and performance are. It is unfortunate, in my opinion, that Donald Trump failed to appreciate this basic principle.
I also believe that the conduct of the President of the football governing body represents a grave betrayal of sporting values and should not be tolerated.
Sport remains one of the greatest forces that brings humanity together and strengthens international friendship. It must remain sport and should never become a tool for political interference.
The world is already suffering from numerous crises. If such actions continue unchecked, one can only wonder what further damage may follow.
I am fully aware that this article may never reach Donald Trump or the people of the United States. I sincerely hope it does, though I recognize that this may never happen. Even so, I believe our inner voice must continue to speak, however faintly, in defence of truth, fairness, and the spirit of sport.
